On December 4, 2018, COERR and UNHCR organized the workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction, focusing on how to efficiently use the Hand Siren in Ban Mai Nai Soi Camp, Muang District, Mae Hong Son Province.

The Muang District Chief chaired the opening ceremony of the event attended by 91 concerned participants, including camp commander, COERR Project Officers and camp-based refugee staff, Government and NGOs staff and refugee camp committee.

The trainer team from the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office refreshed the knowledge about disaster risk prevention and mitigation in fire safety being trained in mid-year. Then they introduced the use of hand siren as signal for disaster notification. It was agreed by the participants that the long sound signal would be made at the location where incident taken place only, to prevent misunderstanding in finding location. The sirens will be kept and maintained by the refugee camp committee and section leaders to make sure that they will be in good use whenever necessary.
